After the discovery at the end of May of the first case of African swine fever in the far west of Germany, near the French border, France has taken extra precautions.
For example, studies in gebieden in the east of the country on infected wild boars have been expanded. Since the discovery, French authorities are now taking into account “the epidemiological situation in West Germany”
An increased state of surveillance ('phase 2B') for nature monitoring has been applied since this week in 14 municipalities in the northeastern French regions of Bas-Rhin in Grand Est.
This increased nature monitoring has been applied to the southern French coastal provinces on the Côte d'Azur since the beginning of this year, after the discovery of ASF cases in northern Italy. This level of supervision has also been in place for some time along the border with Belgium, through part of the Ardennes, Meurthe-et-Moselle and Meuse departments.
Spain has also seized the opportunity of the ASF outbreak on the German-French border to encourage domestic companies to be more cautious. Again the urgent need to comply with biosecurity measures in pig farms and in animal transport is emphasized.
The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture also pointed out the importance of disinfection, for example when transporting animals, and published a list of approved disinfectants that work against ASF.
