At the beginning of last year, the EU already agreed to the export of Moldovan poultry products following a positive audit report from April 2022, which confirmed that Moldova complies with the definitive food safety standards. Just last week, the European Commission concluded that Moldova is making sufficient progress in the accession process to the EU.
Georg Standard had to make significant investments in modern technologies and sustainability to adapt to the European requirements. For example, the company installed solar energy systems and powerful sorting equipment to make production more environmentally friendly. In addition to gradual upgrades, Georg Standard also implemented measures to control and maintain control over diseases such as salmonella in its poultry houses.
According to Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the access to the European market has substantially strengthened the Moldovan economy. By gaining access to the lucrative EU market, Moldova now has a stable sales market for its poultry products, with already 65% of exports going to the EU. There are also discussions about expanding the export license to fresh poultry meat, although these talks are still ongoing.
The approval offers Moldova not only economic benefits but also increasing recognition of the quality of Moldovan agricultural products.
The EU sees this as an opportunity to expand the market share of Eastern European producers and encourage local producers in Moldova to invest in powerful and sustainable production methods. This step is seen as part of a broader EU strategy to bring Eastern European countries, including Moldova, economically and politically closer to the union.
