In a large-scale operation, more than 100 searches were conducted against 102 suspects. Eleven suspects were arrested in Croatia.
The suspects illegally distributed content from online streaming services, including films and series. They also hacked more than 2,500 television channels, such as sports channels. The illegal service provider served over 22 million users worldwide.
The perpetrators were able to generate more than 250 million euros in illegal profits per month. The economic damage to the copyright holders of the material is estimated at 10 billion euros.
International police agencies Eurojust and Europol supported the operation, which involved authorities from Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. On November 26, the servers hosting the illegal streaming service were seized and shut down.
During the searches, over EUR 1.6 million in cryptocurrency and EUR 40,000 in cash were seized. Croatian police arrested 11 suspects.
