The total export value of agricultural and food products in 2025 was approximately 238 billion euros. This represents an increase of around 1 percent compared to the previous year. This keeps the European Union among the leading players in the global agricultural product market.
However, the growth in exports remained limited. Over the course of the year, there was only a small increase, indicating that international demand remained stable but did not significantly strengthen.
Much More Import
On the other hand, imports increased noticeably more. In 2025, about 188 billion euros worth of agricultural and food products was imported. This is an increase of over 9 percent compared to the year before.
Promotion
The agriculture and food sector thus remains an important pillar of the European economy. A large part of the EU's overall trade surplus comes from this sector.
Trade Balance
Exports are also widely spread across various products and destinations. Moreover, Brussels is currently actively working to sign trade agreements with more countries worldwide. This provides stability and makes the sector less dependent on any single specific market.
There also remains global demand for European products. This helps maintain the level of exports even when growth is limited. The figures show that the sector remains strong, but the dynamics are changing. The limited export growth combined with the sharper increase in imports is causing a shift in the trade balance.
