China remains the world's largest producer and importer of pork this year as well. The European Union is the world's largest exporter, with exports totaling 4.8 million tons.
With an expected share of 46.2 percent of global pork production at 110.5 million tons, China ranks first globally with 51 million tons. Compared to 47.5 million tons in 2021, this is an increase of 7.4 percent.
The EU ranks second as a producer with an expected share of 20.9% and production of 23.2 million tons. This is a decline of 2.4%. The United States ranks third with production of 12.3 million tons. US pork production also decreases by 2.2 percent compared to 2021. Brazil (4th) and Mexico (8th) are also in the top ten with expected productions of 4.4 and 1.5 million tons respectively.
As an exporter, the EU leads the world with 4.8 million tons (40.7 percent of the total world pork exports of 11.7 million tons). The United States is in second place with 25.6 percent (3 million tons). Canada ranks third with a share of 12.5%.
South American countries also contribute significant export volumes. Brazil is expected to be fourth with 1.3 million tons (11.4 percent) and Mexico fifth with 0.3 million tons (2.7 percent).
China leads the list of pork importing countries with a share of 31.9% (3.5 million tons). This represents a 19.2 percent decrease compared to 2021. Japan ranks second with 13.2 percent, and Mexico is third worldwide with 10.9 percent (1.2 million tons).
