The European Parliament holds an extraordinary plenary meeting on Tuesday to commemorate the Russian war against Ukraine. Four years ago, the Russians entered the eastern part of the country, having already annexed the Crimean Peninsula ten years earlier.
Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, is expected to make a statement during the meeting. In it, the Parliament will once again express its support for Ukraine and emphasize the importance of European involvement.
A financial support package is also central, involving a loan of 90 billion euros, which will be formally handled or signed during or around this special session.

Human Suffering
The Russian war against Ukraine has exacted a heavy human toll in both countries. Thousands, and in some cases tens of thousands, of deaths have been reported since the start of large-scale fighting.
At the same time, Ukraine’s future within the European Union remains a topic of discussion. The application for EU membership is still under consideration in Brussels.
Membership
Many EU countries believe the country can become a full EU member as soon as possible, but also take broader political and diplomatic developments into account, including potential peace negotiations. It is emphasized that outcomes are not yet certain.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is expected to be present in Kyiv on Tuesday for a Ukrainian commemoration of four years of war.
