Orbán reiterated his promise that there will be "no deals, no compromises" to restore the supply of Russian oil. He claims that Ukraine is deliberately delaying the pipeline repairs, which helps the political agenda of his opponents.
The oil pipeline has been running for many decades from Russia over Ukrainian territory to Hungary and Slovakia. The Ukrainians say the pipeline was bombed and damaged by the Russians.
Linked
In response to Orbán's warnings, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy says the pipeline can be repaired within a month and a half. He describes Orbán's words as "bleating" and points out that Hungary is blocking the EU from granting Kyiv 90 billion in aid.
Promotion
Zelenskyy added that the repair of the pipeline is linked to the EU loan currently being blocked by Hungary. It is a strategic move given the upcoming Hungarian parliamentary elections on April 12, where Orbán is under pressure.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has accused Hungary of 'kidnapping' seven employees of Oschadbank and seizing 40 million dollars and 35 million euros in cash, along with 9 kilograms of gold. These employees were held during a routine bank transaction.
Gold and Money Transport
Reportedly, the Hungarians intercepted the Ukrainian money and gold transport that was traveling from Austria through Hungary to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha describes Hungary's actions as "state terrorism and extortion." He also demands that Ukrainian consulates be granted access to the detainees, but this access has not yet been provided.
All Means
Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto is seeking explanations from the Ukrainian government about the large money transports through Hungary and considers the situation a serious problem related to the war in Ukraine.
The tensions escalate further as Orbán threatens to also stop items important for Ukraine as part of his rhetoric towards the current crisis. He states that all means will be used in this matter.
