Due to the ongoing growth in poultry consumption, Colombia and Peru have an increasing need for foreign investments and expertise. The Netherlands is also being considered. Several companies from the Dutch poultry industry are already successfully active in these two South American countries.
“Our country has a good reputation,” says Peter Snoeijenbos from the company Marel in an interview with the network of Dutch agricultural consuls. This originally Dutch company specializing in poultry processing technology now has several large poultry integrators as clients in both Colombia and Peru.
Snoeijenbos notes that poultry companies in these South American countries require knowledge and technical support. This is also why the agricultural team at the Dutch embassy in Bogota and Holland House Colombia are organizing a digital roadshow.
There is considerable demand for knowledge and technology in these countries. Sustainability of production and processing is also an important theme where Dutch companies can assist, for example in the treatment of process water and slaughter waste. Environmental regulations are also becoming stricter in these countries.
The aim of the four-day program (November 8 through 11) is to inform Dutch poultry companies about the opportunities for cooperation with Colombian and Peruvian companies. Snoeijenbos, as chairman of Holland House Colombia, is involved in this digital roadshow.
Colombia has a large number of poultry processing companies, including some major players. Snoeijenbos sees a trend of increasing collaboration within the chains, applying to both eggs and meat.
This clustering makes it easier for Dutch companies to do business. Peru has fewer poultry meat processing companies. The market there is more clearly organized than in Colombia.
