Stolen Grain?
The cargo vessel is on a sanctions list from Ukraine. The ship reportedly transported a load of grain. Authorities are now investigating the origin of that cargo and the circumstances under which the transport took place. Ukraine accuses the Russians of stealing Ukrainian grain from the eastern provinces and from Crimea.
The authorities have initiated a preliminary investigation into possible violations of international maritime regulations. This includes examining the technical condition of the ship and whether it complies with applicable safety regulations.
The ownership structure of the ship also raises questions. According to Swedish authorities, it is unclear who exactly owns or controls the ship. In addition, there is doubt about whether the ship has the required insurance.
